Chandigarh/Ludhiana: Sony India has officially unveiled the Alpha™ 1 II, the next-generation flagship full-frame mirrorless camera in its acclaimed Alpha series. Packed with cutting-edge imaging technology, blazing-fast performance, and intelligent AI capabilities, the new model is designed for professional photographers and videographers who demand top-tier performance across diverse shooting scenarios — from sports and wildlife to cinema-grade film production.

The Alpha 1 II builds upon the legacy of its predecessor with significant enhancements in resolution, speed, subject recognition, video capabilities, and ergonomics. It features a 50.1 MP Exmor RS™ stacked CMOS sensor, Sony’s BIONZ XR™ image processing engine, and a new AI processing unit that powers real-time autofocus and subject recognition for both stills and videos.

“The Alpha 1 II is a culmination of Sony’s innovation in digital imaging,” said Mukesh Srivastava, Head of Imaging Business at Sony India. “With its combination of ultra-high resolution, fast frame rates, AI-enhanced subject tracking, and advanced video features, this camera sets a new benchmark in professional imaging. It reflects our commitment to empowering content creators with tools that offer creative freedom, reliability, and exceptional results.”

Key Features of the Alpha 1 II

1. 50.1 MP Sensor with BIONZ XR™ Processing

At the heart of the Alpha 1 II is a 50.1-megapixel full-frame stacked CMOS sensor, which delivers detailed, high-resolution images with excellent dynamic range. Paired with Sony’s BIONZ XR™ processor, the camera produces exceptional image clarity even at higher sensitivities, making it ideal for both studio and outdoor settings. In APS-C crop mode, the camera still delivers a solid 21 MP output.

2. AI-Powered Autofocus with Real-Time Recognition

A major highlight of the Alpha 1 II is its dedicated AI processing unit, which enables Real-time Recognition AF. This advanced autofocus system can track human subjects using body, head, and eye detection, while also accurately recognizing animals, birds, insects, and vehicles. A new “Auto” mode allows the camera to automatically detect and track subjects without requiring users to pre-select a tracking mode — a game-changer for dynamic and unpredictable shooting environments.

3. 30fps Shooting with Pre-Capture and Speed Boost

The Alpha 1 II delivers blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second, supported by AF/AE tracking and 120 calculations per second for precise focus and exposure adjustments. Additionally, a Pre-Capture mode allows photographers to record up to 1 second of images before the shutter is pressed, helping capture fleeting moments. The Continuous Shooting Speed Boost feature lets users dynamically adjust burst rates on the fly.

4. Professional Video Capabilities: 8K and 4K Recording

Sony continues its leadership in video technology with the Alpha 1 II’s 8K 30p and 4K 120p recording options. With 8.6K oversampling for 8K output and full pixel readout without binning, the footage retains remarkable detail and color depth. Support for 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC HS, S, and S-I formats ensures professional-grade color grading and editing flexibility. 4K can be recorded in full-frame or Super 35 mm, with up to 600 Mbps bitrate for high-quality capture.

5. Advanced Image Stabilization

Photographers and filmmakers will benefit from optical image stabilization offering up to 8.5 stops of compensation in the center and 7.0 stops in peripheral areas. Combined with Sony’s anti-distortion shutter, this system helps reduce motion blur and rolling shutter effects — essential for sports, wildlife, and handheld videography. A new Dynamic Active Mode enhances stability during video recording for smooth, shake-free footage.

6. Refined Design and Workflow Enhancements

Sony has overhauled the camera’s ergonomics with a more comfortable grip, repositioned shutter button, and improved custom buttons. The 3.2-inch 4-axis vari-angle touchscreen LCD provides flexibility for shooting at awkward angles, while a new deep eyepiece cup offers enhanced viewfinder comfort, especially during long shoots.

On the connectivity front, the camera includes 2.5GBASE-T wired LAN support for fast data transfer — a major advantage for real-time event coverage and studio workflows. Through Sony’s Creators’ Cloud platform, photographers can automatically upload images to Adobe Lightroom or Google Drive, streamlining post-production and file management.

7. Dual-Battery Charging and Vertical Grip Support

The Alpha 1 II comes with the BC-ZD1 dual-battery charger, capable of fully charging two NP-FZ100 batteries in just 155 minutes. For extended use, users can attach the VG-C5 vertical grip, which improves handling and offers additional battery support for prolonged shooting sessions.

8. Sustainable Packaging Initiative

Sony is also prioritizing environmental responsibility. The Alpha 1 II is the first Alpha series camera (excluding ZV models) to ship in plastic-free packaging made from Sony’s Original Blended Material — a combination of bamboo, sugarcane fiber, and recycled paper. This reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation across product categories.
